Hello! Welcome to the first post for my podcast, Betsy Goes to the Movies… and sometimes her friends come too.
About the movie: It was released in 1978 as a low budget spoof of B-movies (that is very obvious) and was directed by John DeBello, who also was one of the producers and writers. It was also produced and written by Stephen Peace and written by Costa Dillon, who also came up with the story. It starred David Miller as Mason Dixon, the person in charge of the security team that was supposed to stop the tomato menace, Stephen Peace as Finletter, Dixon’s top spy, George Wilson as Jim Richardson the press secretary, Sharon Taylor as Lois Fairchild the reporter, Al Sklar as Ted Swan who runs the Mind Maker agency, and Dean Grell as Miss Potato Famine 1922.
Some notes about this episode:
- At one point I refer to someone as Greta– that is the Olympic swimmer
- I mistakenly call Ted Swan the Mind Maker when in actuality Mind Maker is his agency
I don’t know why watching them attack people with just real tomatoes you would see in a garden or store was so funny to me, but I couldn’t stop giggling.
Obviously the podcast contains spoilers. Well, it is a spoiler. If you want to get the whole experience, it’s available on Amazon Prime video.
I absolutely love this movie. I had never seen it before, and it wildly exceeded my expectations. It’s actually the first in a trilogy, so look for the other two here later on!
