Words I never thought I would say include “the kitten is too young for rum”.

Wow, this movie is a lot of bad. And I still have four more to go! To give you the run down of how this happened to come into my life, Alicia had just recovered from Covid, and in a moment of weakness (there was whiskey), I told her that because I knew she loved the movie that if she wanted to, we could do it for the podcast. Needless to say, she was all over it. My plan was to just do the first one, and now there will be five.

I quit drinking for good after all of the recordings were done.

I am really obsessed with how bad the wigs are. I bring that up a lot. It’s this movie’s version of Jimmy never changing his clothes in Tremors: Shrieker Island.

The sheer amount of creepiness, stalkerness (is that a word?), and gaslighting that goes on from Edward is astounding. It really bothers me that Team Edward is even a thing because he is not a good role model for how people should treat each other whether or not they’re in a relationship. In fact, I was really surprised at how many women were involved in major parts of the production considering how much Edward’s treatment of Bella was glorified and held up as not only acceptable but desirable to millions of pre-teen girls. I did like Bella more than I thought I would, although Alicia assured me that Bella gets a lot worse as the movies go on. She was not wrong.

This was released in 2008 by Summit Entertainment and was directed by Catherine Hardwicke. It was written by Melissa Rosenberg and based on the novel by Stephanie Meyer. It stars Kristen Stewart as Bella, Robert Pattinson as Edward, Taylor Lautner as Jacob, and Billy Burke as Charlie. It’s available on Showtime.
