Batman: The Movie

I had to rent this to watch it with Erin, and I’m not gonna lie, I’m probably going to buy it. I haven’t watched the original Batman series in years. I forgot how good it is with the tongue-in-cheek dry humor, puns, special effects, and villains. It’s the way I always loved Batman both as comics and as a series that movies now do not provide. It’s not a dark, dystopian, grim thing. It’s a well meaning rich guy with a lot of toys and a very well labeled Batcave trying to do right by his city.

Also can we point out that Batman was completely fooled by Catwoman’s disguise despite the facts that her alias was Kitka, she wore leopard print everywhere, and she repeatedly said, “purrfectly”, but he saw through Penguin’s disguise immediately?

Another fun fact we figured out is that this movie came out 55 years ago, 8 years before I was born. The oddest things make me feel old.

It came out in 1966 from Twentieth Century Fox and was directed by Leslie H. Martinson and written by Lorenzo Semple, Jr. Unless you lived your whole life under a rock, you know it’s based on the Batman characters created by Bob Kane as well as the TV show created by William Dozier and written by William Dozier and Lorenzo Semple, Jr. It stars Adam West as Batman, Burt Ward as Robin, Lee Meriweather as Catwoman, Cesar Romano as the Joker, Burgess Meredith as The Penguin, Frank Gorshin as the Riddler, and Alan Napier as Alfred.

Definitely check this out. I think that the sequels will be coming soon to a movie podcast near you.
