This mash up of Top Gun and the first Independence Day is brought to you by a disgruntled podcaster who had to rent the movie twice because it ran out before I finished watching the first time. Also Lucy supplied all the background noise. She was very helpful.
You know that thing that happens when a studio puts out a good blockbuster and a good third movie but the second movie is the stuff of nightmares? It feels like that’s what happened here. There is a very obvious set up for a third movie, but while Disney and Devlin both decided to cancel any plans for a third, who knows what will happen.
I think the most riveting thing about the movie was when Amazon’s X-Ray screwed up and showed the wrong characters. There seemed to be a lot of missing scenes– or at least missing information, gaping plot holes, and too much needless drama.
This came out in 2016 from 20th Century Fox. It was directed by Rolan Emmerich and written by Nicholas Wright, James A Woods, Dean Devlin, Roland Emmerich, James Vanderbilt, and Carter Blanchard. Fun fact, Dean Devlin wrote the original script right after the first movie came out and was so embarrassed by it that he gave the money back to the studio and didn’t turn in the script until 15 years later.
It stars Jeff Goldblum as David, Liam Hemsworth as Jake, and Brent Spiner as Dr. Okun. I know that’s a lot, but other than Jake and Dylan, everyone just seemed thrown into this. Will Smith wisely chose to do Suicide Squad rather than bring back his character in this lovely, epic that was nominated for multiple worst picture awards.
